5 QUESTIONS WITH CAITLAN
Caitlan is a self taught artist residing in Watertown, NY. In 2015 she started experimenting with watercolor and it has since turned into her main focus. As a tattoo artist she started using watercolor as a way to display possible tattoo designs for clients. She quickly learned that there was so much more that she could do with the medium. While some of her paintings are still inspired by tattooing and the many styles of art that surround it, most of her more personal work is inspired by nature and introspection. The comfort you feel when alone on stormy fall afternoons, or somber winter days when the rest of the world appears dead.

1. What color do you associate with your absolute best childhood memory and why?
The color of raspberries. Growing up my mom had this gorgeous flower garden in our back yard that also grew raspberries. It was a in a shady secluded corner with a massive boulder in the center. I would spend my summer days pretending I was in the book, The Secret Garden, sitting on that massive rock reading and snacking on those raspberries.
2. What piece of advice have you been given that you've ignored and had it work out for you?
The only advice I really ignore is when I'm second guessing myself -especially with the color palettes of my paintings- and I reach out for advice and its the opposite of what my gut is telling me. I'll often ignore their suggestions and go with my instinct.
3. What’s the weirdest or most unexpected place an idea for your work has struck you?
I found a cool stick on the ground once.
4. What’s a silly fear you have that you fully stand by?
I don't know if it is silly, but I would have to say the dark. Nothings worse than being in a dark, dark room with shadows and light fleeting across the space, no frame of reference for what you're seeing, just your imagination.
5. What food combination makes people judge you but you love it?
Peanut butter and dill pickles. Hands down one of the best sandwiches you can make. Has to be dill though, none of that bread and butter stuff.
