5 QUESTIONS WITH KIMBERLY
Kimberly A. Cavanagh is a performance poet who has been using her writing as a way of expressing and advocating for herself and other trauma survivors. Her depth of experience living with Bipolar Disorder and complex PTSD has inspired her to navigate the mental health system and family system with fierce vulnerability. Kim believes her gifts of writing and ways of expressing herself through the spoken word are gifts from God. It is her faith that has saved her life and has created meaning in times when she couldn't fathom how she could build and rebuild it. Kimberly is proud of her ability to write poetry and eagerly shares her story with others which she feels is always growing and transforming into something more beautiful than imagined. She is most thankful to God, Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit which continue to give her hope and direction. She is a mother of three children and is inspired daily by the courageous actions of them all. Her biggest love is the love she has for them and her writing continues to grow in joy as she lives to express her infinite love toward them. Kim believes that inspiration is everywhere that you need only to catch it with your pen! She also believes that healing is contagious and she works daily to spread the light.
1. What's the weirdest compliment you've ever received?
The weirdest compliment I've ever received is that I could have been a real prizefighter, because of my resiliency. I would make a worthy opponent, because no matter what happens to me, I bounce back up!
2. What would surprise people about your daily life?
I think that people would be surprised that in my daily life I am a homemaker. I love to cook and bake homestyle meals in what I affectionately call, "Kimberly's Kitchen". I also love to share with my friends. The more the merrier!
3. What do you collect, intentionally or accidentally?
I collect art intentionally and pens sometimes accidentally. I get inspired by other artists and believe in supporting local living artists. I collect pens too, but often by accident. I have one cross pen with my name on it. I love how certain pens just glide across the page and may influence my writing style. If someone borrows me a pen though I often forget to give it back, so if you're missing a pen, chances are I may have it in my collection!
4. What is an irrational hill you're willing to die on?
An irrational hill I'm willing to die on could be my love for diet coke. It's like gold to me.
5. What keeps you curious?
Learning new things and allowing myself to be a beginner is what keeps me curious. I love people who challenge me and when my hindsight, insight, and foresight align it makes for an interesting experience.
